Brian E King, PE

Senior Staff Engineer

Brian began building the BMP services division of Harris Engineering in September of 2009. He and Mr. Harris are partners in this division but Mr. King has been the driving force in it’s creation and successful implementation.  Since establishing the Stormwater Division he has grown it rapidly to serve a broad spectrum of clients ranging from private owners and property management companies to regional and national corporations.  Our clients appreciate Brian’s innovative and practical approach to stormwater control management and especially his natural energy and enthusiasm.

Brian graduated North Carolina State University with an Environmental Engineering degree in 1997 and his passion for the environment shows in every facet of his work.  He is a licensed NC Professional Engineer and successfully manages stormwater control measures throughout the Triangle and central North Carolina.  Prior to Harris Engineering, Brian worked as a Geotechnical or soils engineer for four years, a designer and project manager at Harris Engineering and the John R. McAdams company for a combined five years and as a construction manager for Duke Realty Corporation for three years.  Brian’s soils experience, project management, design and construction experience combine well to make him a highly sought after stormwater expert.

Brian lives with his amazing wife and two beautiful children in North Raleigh.   He enjoys playing with his kids, hanging out with his friends and watching the NCSU Wolfpack win.

Bryan Harris

Director Civil Division

Bryan has literally been raised on civil engineering. Born just one year before his father established his consulting firm in 1981 he has many hours and days spent with his father, in the office assisting with any tasks he could. Bryan attended Wake Technical College earning double Associate degrees in Arts and Science. Bryan began his full time engineering career as a table draftsman in 1998. Not feeling comfortable with hand drafted plans Bryan was instrumental in bringing Harris Engineering into the CAD drafting world. Bryan's knowledge in engineering has been primarily learned "on the job". He has been taught field surveying and data collection as well as field construction inspections.

Bryan took time off from Harris Engineering to serve our country with two tours of duty with the U.S. Army in the Iraq war. He has earned multiple honors, citations and ribbons including the Combat Action Badge. As a result of flight school and warrant officers candidate school Bryan's second tour was as an AH-64D Apache Longbow pilot. Since returning from active duty he has continued to serve as a member of the NC National Guard at the Morrisville based Apache unit. He typically fly’s on weekends in support of our full time service.

Mr. Harris has been involved with using his extraordinary math and IT skills to develop, refine and enhance the Harris Engineering design protocols to provide new, better and more accurate design analysis. His acute attention to detail in the design process has allowed Harris Engineering to be more efficient and effective in obtaining plan approvals and permits often on first reviews.

Bryan has been involved in the design of numerous types of projects including:

  • Water distribution
  • Wastewater collection
  • Storm water conveyance
  • BMP storm water design
  • Roadways
  • General site grading
  • Hec-Ras flood studies
  • Land Planning and Residential development
  • Construction management and Inspections
  • Value Engineering
  • Residential subdivisions, apartment and commercial/industrial

His expertise ranges from designs of roadways, erosion control, grading, wastewater/sewer systems, water systems, stormwater collection systems and innovative stormwater BMP treatment devices. Bryan's high level of skill and expertise for conventional and innovative environmental design analysis has effectively saved our clients thousands of dollars in development and construction costs. Bryan has used his military training to effectively manage our production staff and expediently coordinate projects through the permit approval process. He has also commanded respect of various review agencies and staff for the detail and professional presentation of the design product.

Bryan is now a partner and an officer in the firm and is the Director of the Civil Operations Division. Like his father, Bryan is thankful to God for the many blessings in his life. Among those are his beautiful wife and their three wonderful children. Bryan is also a dedicated volunteer with the city of Raleigh coaching youth baseball.

Emily Sullivan

Senior Cad Technician

Emily has been a valued part of the Harris Engineering family since joining our staff in 2007. Completing her Cad degrees at Wake Technical College and using those skills to assist and help direct our growing team of CAD technicians. Her vast experience in our CAD software allows her to be highly efficient in producing plans and details. This makes her the “go to” CAD tech Mr. Harris prefers to use. These highly detailed project plans are a vital aspect in the professional presentation of Harris Engineering designs and thus a direct part of our plan approval success.

When not working Emily enjoys working on her family farm in Granville County.
